Partner Kevin Starkey to Speak on MD&A and Disclosure Clarity at NAFOA 2026
The Grinding Rock CPAs team is attending NAFOA 2026 and looking forward to connecting with Tribal finance leaders, professionals, and advisors from across the country.
During the conference, Grinding Rock Partner Kevin Starkey will participate in the panel discussion, “Numbers to Narrative: Improving MD&A and Disclosure Clarity.”
The session will focus on how financial statements can serve as more than compliance documents. Management’s Discussion and Analysis, or MD&A, financial statement numbers, and disclosures all play an important role in helping readers understand a Tribe’s financial position and results.
Panelists will share practical perspectives on improving the clarity of MD&A, making sure the narrative aligns with the underlying financial statements, and identifying common inconsistencies that can make financial reports more difficult to understand.
Using illustrative examples, the session will also explore ways Tribal finance teams can make financial reporting more meaningful and useful for the audiences who rely on it. That may include Tribal leadership, members, boards, lenders, and other external stakeholders.
Kevin will be joined on the panel by:
Scott Huebert, Partner, Finley & Cook, P.L.L.C.
Patrick Gallardo, Finance Director, Scotts Valley Band of Pomo Indians
Alan Post, Director, Wipfli LLP
The discussion will bring together perspectives from both Tribal finance and public accounting, with an emphasis on practical ways to make complex financial information easier to understand without losing the detail required for accurate reporting.
Grinding Rock CPAs values opportunities like NAFOA to exchange ideas with Tribal finance professionals and contribute to conversations that support strong financial management and informed decision-making.
We look forward to seeing clients, colleagues, and Tribal finance leaders at NAFOA 2026. If you are attending, we hope you will join Kevin and his fellow panelists for “Numbers to Narrative: Improving MD&A and Disclosure Clarity.”
